The collection consists of a variety of papers including business correspondence, fourteen copies of a weekly advertising newsletter sent to customers in the U.S., and Canada, correspondence and notices concerning the Centennial Celebration of the Invention of Lithography (Philadelphia, 1896), notes regarding the establishment of a school for lithography, letters, 1905-1908, from David Paterson (fl. 1900-1927) of Scotland containing detailed and interesting accounts of his work in color chemical dyeing, and an application and resumeĢ of Mary Dana Hicks Prang for a masters degree at Harvard, dated 1921.

Louis Prang was born in Germany where took an active part in the Revolution of 1848. After emigrating to the U.S. Prang served as a mapper during the Civil War and transferred these skill to the business of printingg and lithography.
